2018 KITCHEN TRENDS

Trends. I don't love the word, BUT it is so interesting and important to know what's about to hit your kitchen this year! My advice in a nutshell is -- don't get too trendy. You want to love it for longer than one week. Have fun with it & let it reflect who YOU are -- trendy or not.

On that note, this is what 2018 has for us! I'll share my designer perspective on every trend under the coordinating photo. Oh! And click on the photo to see the source. Here we go!

CABINETS / TO THE CEILING

I guess this isn't really a "trend"... but in my opinion it should be! Taking your cabinets all the way to your ceiling creates a finished, clean, classy look. It opens a wonderful opportunity to add detail to the molding!

CABINETS / TWO TONED

I looove the design of two toned cabinets. Maybe because I can be indecisive & just want both haha. White uppers with a soft color for the lowers is my favorite way!

CABINETS / PLAYING IN THE DARK

Dark cabinets, yes please! I love the moody feeling dark cabinets give off. I think they are gorgeous & exciting!

CEILING TREATMENTS

I totally gave in on this one. And this narrow shiplap is one of the best ways to go. Ceiling treatments create so much interest in a room! I feel like they can really make a room look complete.

BACKSPLASH / SLABS

Beautiful. I personally LOVE a handpicked, curated tile backsplash. But I would totally put it in someone else's home because it is such a beautiful statement when you enter the kitchen!

NATURAL WOOD ACCENTS

I am a sucker for wood. Natural wood tones are my favorite way to add warmth & texture to a space. Whether it's floating shelves, cutting boards or on your island; any dose will do the trick!

DECOR / BOWLS

Pottery. Give me all the pottery! I love that you can customize pottery & it makes it feel even more handmade! Organic, natural elements are very "in" right now & (i believe) always should be. :) Another type of bowl i'm obsessed with lately…

TERRAZZO

Terrazzo, terrazzo, terrazzo - i am not convinced. Yet. You may grow on me in the future but as for now, I can't jump on the trend. This hardware is probably the most I could do! But hey, there is a place & a home for everything & i truly be…

I hope you enjoyed looking at these pretty photos & learning about the kitchen trends for this year of 2018! It's portraying a lot of unique design elements & I can't wait to see how it all enters the world of design!

I love the way My Domaine put it; "Personalize it," she says. "My number one rule about decorating for others is this: The client is first. Ignore the trends. What's in, what's out, what's on the way in, what's on the way out, it's all irrelevant. What matters first and foremost is what the client wants, needs, have, loves, feels good in, feels attached to. Work with that first, and then the actual space is second. Listen to your client, then listen to your house. It will tell you what it needs to feel good, and it's usually texture, white paint, some personal treasures, and incredible lighting."
