My client Abby is a total sweetheart & just so fun to work with! She has been dyyying to get her daughter her own bedroom - complete girly to balance out all of those cute brothers she has ;) SO. Stage 1 of the design process is where i love to get to know my client - what do they love, what colors do they disagree with, functionality of the space, must haves, budget & more! Often, this will begin with a mood board to gather inspiration and direction. I also gather photos, measurements and take a bunch of notes.

Stage 2 is the most fun for me! Okay maybe not the most (that would be the final reveal!) fun, but pretty dang close is… the selections! From here i begin designing, sourcing & shopping for all the right pieces to pull the room together! In this design, I was able to use a ton of local shops and vendors which was so unique and special!

As you may notice - some of this is different than the final design. Which is totally normal! Sometimes revisions take place to find the perfect piece!

Stage 3 I want to make your life easy, less stressful & happy! That is my goal and vision for my business - to create the most beautiful for YOU. Part of this is easy purchasing by sending links and sourcing in a way that makes completing the room seamless! Here are some links to the furniture & accessories you’ll see in Savy’s room! Are you not obsessed with this wallpaper?!?

2018 KITCHEN TRENDS

Trends. I don't love the word, BUT it is so interesting and important to know what's about to hit your kitchen this year! My advice in a nutshell is -- don't get too trendy. You want to love it for longer than one week. Have fun with it & let it reflect who YOU are -- trendy or not.

On that note, this is what 2018 has for us! I'll share my designer perspective on every trend under the coordinating photo. Oh! And click on the photo to see the source. Here we go!

CABINETS / TO THE CEILING

I guess this isn't really a "trend"... but in my opinion it should be! Taking your cabinets all the way to your ceiling creates a finished, clean, classy look. It opens a wonderful opportunity to add detail to the molding!

CABINETS / TWO TONED

I looove the design of two toned cabinets. Maybe because I can be indecisive & just want both haha. White uppers with a soft color for the lowers is my favorite way!

CABINETS / PLAYING IN THE DARK

Dark cabinets, yes please! I love the moody feeling dark cabinets give off. I think they are gorgeous & exciting!

CEILING TREATMENTS

I totally gave in on this one. And this narrow shiplap is one of the best ways to go. Ceiling treatments create so much interest in a room! I feel like they can really make a room look complete.

BACKSPLASH / SLABS

Beautiful. I personally LOVE a handpicked, curated tile backsplash. But I would totally put it in someone else's home because it is such a beautiful statement when you enter the kitchen!

NATURAL WOOD ACCENTS

I am a sucker for wood. Natural wood tones are my favorite way to add warmth & texture to a space. Whether it's floating shelves, cutting boards or on your island; any dose will do the trick!

DECOR / BOWLS

Pottery. Give me all the pottery! I love that you can customize pottery & it makes it feel even more handmade! Organic, natural elements are very "in" right now & (i believe) always should be. :) Another type of bowl i'm obsessed with lately are these little pretties below...

TERRAZZO

Terrazzo, terrazzo, terrazzo - i am not convinced. Yet. You may grow on me in the future but as for now, I can't jump on the trend. This hardware is probably the most I could do! But hey, there is a place & a home for everything & i truly believe that!

I hope you enjoyed looking at these pretty photos & learning about the kitchen trends for this year of 2018! It's portraying a lot of unique design elements & I can't wait to see how it all enters the world of design!

I love the way My Domaine put it; "Personalize it," she says. "My number one rule about decorating for others is this: The client is first. Ignore the trends. What's in, what's out, what's on the way in, what's on the way out, it's all irrelevant. What matters first and foremost is what the client wants, needs, have, loves, feels good in, feels attached to. Work with that first, and then the actual space is second. Listen to your client, then listen to your house. It will tell you what it needs to feel good, and it's usually texture, white paint, some personal treasures, and incredible lighting."
